I’m David Hernández, an artist, designer, and educator working in Los Angeles, CA from Chicago, IL.

Taller Para Nosotros—Studio for Us—is my practice. Within that discipline lies painting, public programming, art education, graphic design, illustration, and writing.

The creative energy behind Taller Para Nosotros is rooted in the Zapatista declaration issued in January 1996: a belief that it is our responsibility to fight injustice for those that will come tomorrow and the undying hope that there are better worlds to build together. My practice allows us to imagine our collective liberation.

My work is born out of a desire to challenge systems and be in right relationship with oppressed people everywhere. The motto is community over competition, always. If you’re leading with love and are here to uplift and work in solidarity with BIPOC communities I want to work with you.

People and organizations I’ve collaborated with through my practice include the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, YouTube Education, Brown University, The Art Institute of Chicago, Nike, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Smithsonian Latino Center, National Museum of Mexican Art, The Hundreds, Young Chicago Authors, Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health, Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center, Museum Educators of Southern California, Hyde Park Art Center and more.
